The department deals with two parts namely forensic medicine and toxicology. The forensic medicine is branch deals with legal aspects of medical practice and legal responsibilities of doctor while practicing medicine. The students gain knowledge on application of medical knowledge in administration of law and justice in areas like Doctor-Patient relationship , rights of doctor, medical ethics ,consent , medical negligence ,professional misconduct etc.,

Toxicology deals with poison in relation to their source, properties, action, the symptoms they produce, fatal dose, diagnosis, treatment and autopsy features. As siddha graduates they gain knowledge of both siddha and modern aspects of management and treatment of poisoning.

The department has well efficient one professor, one associate professor and an assistant professor to carry out all academic activities. The department has well facilitated museum with specimens and instruments. Our mission is to provide basic medico legal aspects of hospital and general practice. Appreciate the physicians responsibilities in criminal matters and respect for codes of medical ethics, diagnose, manage and identify the legal aspects of poisoning.
